Went on a genealogy hunt on July 30th up to Kempton in Albany County Pa to a church where I found many ancestors. Here are two pics taken from the church.

At last..
Drew called this morning at around 8:40. He is finally on base and can't wait to sleep. He said every two trailers share a bathroom that connects the two separate units but there is nothing in it so he's not sure if the other occupant isn't here yet or if her has one to himself. His cousin is looking out for him so maybe. Time will tell. All he knows for sure is that he is a 30 second walk from the gym and the phones. Another guy he met while on R&R in Dubai is meeting up with him today to drive him around the base. Also, hopefully when he calls, the number comes up "Texas" so we think we may be able to call him right back and just pay for a long distance call like we're calling to Texas. We'll see. That's all for now.

Phone calls, lots of phone calls
Drew called this morning at 3:15am. Then he called again this afternoon. It always make me happy to hear his voice, but I'll feel better when he's settled into his new home. I went to get xrays this morning and even though I'm not supposed to take them, I've been taking motrin and tylenol. It's the only thing that knocks the pain down enough for me to function. I stopped and bought a box at UPS. 6.50 or something-OMG for a cardboard box! I'm glad I'll only have this one big shipment once. The rest it will be just cupcakes and stuff like that. Russell's cousin John met him in Baghdad and although I'm angry at him for getting Drew into this shit-we are glad he's not alone. He sent 2 pictures. Still wish he was home. All in all we've heard from Drew about 8 times since Tuesday. I really hope we can get him a phone that will work over there. I really hope he meets lots of friends. I really hope he stays safe and comes home.

This week....
This week
Tuesday he called from the Houston airport when he was getting ready to leave. He called from the Atlanta airport when he got there and before his flight to Dubai. He sounded excited and a little scared. I tried not to sound mortified. I want him to be safe but now that he's actually going I want him to get a good experience from all of this and to enjoy the good parts. I still won't ever forgive the person responsible for taking him there. I spent all day Tuesday on the computer figuring out the schedule for the church picnic, shopping list, what I need to bring from church, that kind of thing-yesterday I spent all day on the couch sick as a dog. We had a huge thunderstorm after 4 days of intense heat and our power went off Tuesday night around 7. I woke around 4 with awful back pain and took 1/2 a vicodin, but it only worked about 2 hours, and I ended up taking another 1/2 around 9am that made me really sick. Must have been because I took it with all my other meds. I had to call our council head for church and bag out of our monthly council meeting. I had a lot of business to take care of so that wasn't good. They need to find out what's wrong with it and fix it. so anyway...Drew called last night from Dubai. He sounded tired (it was 3:15 there) it had been a long flight (14 hrs) wedged between to fat men. (poor Drew) he had taken some tylenol pm hoping it would help him sleep, but it made him jittery instead. After checking into the hotel and taking care of business, him and a coworker hopped in a cab and drove around Dubai to see the sights. He said it was a wild town with a lot of night life and lights. Sounds to me like a middle eastern Time Square. He wasn't sure when he would go to Baghdad. Either today or tomorrow, we'll have to wait and see. I told him to make sure he said his prayers. He said he would. I believe he will.

Annnd he's off...
Well our son leaves for Iraq on Tuesday. My heart is afraid. He keeps us posted on all the training he's been given-but people die there every day-with more training than him. I'm sure he'll read this-please don't ever relax, don't ever get comfortable. Be safe and say your prayers. I love you
